A grated circular outfall at the end of a mossy, fence-topped concrete channel, swallowed by summer woods. The way in, and the first sign of how big the system is. — 01 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Ultra-wide view down the outfall channel, water rushing between rows of angled concrete baffle blocks toward the barred circular portal. The blocks break the flow before it leaves the drain. — 02 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A wide arched culvert opens under overhanging willows where a shallow creek runs past a stained concrete wall and a small outlet pipe. Green light on the water before the dark. — 03 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Inside a round concrete pipe, a boxed-in sanitary line runs along one side while a thin sheet of water spills over a small step in the channel. Two systems sharing one tunnel. — 04 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

04 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

The round tunnel curves gently away into darkness, the concrete sanitary casing on the left and a narrow flowing channel on the right. The bend hides whatever comes next. — 05 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A tall concrete manhole chamber lit from below, a ladder of step irons climbing to a hanging steel landing far overhead, a chalk tag and survey mark by the tunnel mouth. It shows how deep the drain runs. — 06 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking straight up the same chamber: step irons spiral up the wall to a grated steel landing hung in the shaft, with the dark tunnel mouth below right. The vertical scale of the chamber in one frame. — 07 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

07 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Through a round pipe mouth, water pours from a side inlet into a junction chamber and over a concrete ledge into the lower channel, step irons on the right wall. A spot where you cannot stay dry. — 08 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking up in the junction chamber: steel braces and a rusted pipe hang overhead while a thin waterfall drops beside a tunnel mouth into dark water. Rust, concrete and falling water in the dark. — 09 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking up inside a concrete chamber: step irons climb a stained wall toward a caged landing and grate, with a large pipe crossing overhead and a dark tunnel mouth below. Shows how the shaft links the surface to the drain. — 10 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A round concrete pipe stretches into darkness, split by a raised ledge beside a low-flow channel carrying foamy water. Drips fall from a joint in the ceiling where a smaller pipe enters. — 11 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

An arched opening in a concrete tunnel reveals a stained shaft wall with step irons and a yellow grab pole leading up to a grated landing. Survey paint marks the wall on either side. — 12 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A patched-together plastic pipe snakes down a cracked concrete wall past a metal railing, beside a rust-streaked larger pipe entering the chamber. A close look at the improvised plumbing inside the drain. — 13 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

From inside a round pipe, the view opens onto a junction chamber with a ladder of step irons on the far wall, a red-lit side inlet and still water reflecting the rungs. The meeting point of several lines in the system. — 14 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking straight up a tall, narrow concrete shaft lined with step irons and two caged landings toward a small grate at the top. Conveys the depth of the drain below the surface. — 15 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Framed by a circular pipe opening, a camera on a tripod stands in shallow water in front of a chamber where a thin stream pours down the back wall. Shows the photographer's setup at the plunge pool. — 16 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

16 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A square concrete plunge pool filled with green water, fed by a single stream falling from a slot in the back wall. It marks the furthest point reached in the drain. — 17 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

17 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking up a square manhole shaft crusted with mineral deposits, with step rungs rising to a round lid. A stepped frame around the opening may catch debris falling from the street. — 18 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A mirrorless camera on a tripod faces into a dark concrete culvert mouth, vines hanging overhead and a distant explorer lit at the far end. A behind-the-scenes look at shooting in the dark. — 19 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A silhouetted photographer with a tripod stands in shallow water inside a brick-lined arched culvert, the flashlight beam turning the tunnel and its reflection into a near-perfect ring, with trees at the far opening. — 20 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Red, green and violet lights paint concentric arches along a brick culvert, doubled into a glowing ring by the still water below. — 21 / 26shot on Pixel 8 Pro
