A barred corrugated steel outfall opens into a still, murky pool at the foot of a wooded embankment. The wide view sets the scene before the way in. — 01 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Closer look at the bent, rusted grate over the corrugated pipe mouth, debris snagged along its bottom rail. The bars are warped enough to show how people get in. — 02 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

An arm reaches between the warped bars of the grate into the corrugated pipe, shallow water running along its floor. The bent bars make an easy point of entry. — 03 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking back out from inside the corrugated pipe, rippling water reflects the grate and the woods beyond. The bolted rings frame the entrance like a lens. — 04 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A long corrugated steel pipe recedes into darkness, with a rusted lateral pipe breaking through the wall on the right. Flashlight picks out the bolt rows and wet gravel floor. — 05 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

The corrugated pipe gives way to a smooth concrete pipe covered in red spray-painted scrawl, with step irons and a loose cable on the right. A debris mat has built up at the joint. — 06 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking back from the concrete chamber, the corrugated pipe runs toward a bright point of daylight. Red graffiti, step irons and a hanging cable line the chamber walls. — 07 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A straight concrete pipe with a narrow channel in its invert stretches into black, its walls tagged with red spray paint. The perfect symmetry pulls the eye to the vanishing point. — 08 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A concrete junction room where a corrugated pipe and a smaller side pipe meet, lit from above by a manhole shaft with a steel ladder. Curved concrete benching guides the flow toward the camera. — 09 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A silhouetted explorer stands in shallow water in the junction room, framed by the dark ring of the pipe and the lit corrugated tunnel behind. The figure gives the space its scale. — 10 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

The same junction with the lights cut: only the manhole shaft's daylight catches the ladder and benching, the explorer nearly lost in shadow. A darker companion to the previous frame. — 11 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A lone silhouetted figure stands in shallow water inside a dark corrugated steel pipe, backlit by the bright bend of tunnel beyond. The ribs of the pipe frame the figure like rings of a target. — 12 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A concrete junction chamber between two corrugated steel pipes, with a smaller round inlet high on the back wall and a stained trail where water has run down. A tripod stands in the middle for scale. — 13 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking down a long, gently curving corrugated steel pipe, its bolted seams and ribs spiralling into darkness. A thin sheen of water runs along the invert. — 14 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A straight run of corrugated steel pipe with a capped side connection and faded orange survey paint on the wall. Clear water flows over gravel along the bottom. — 15 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Two side pipes break into the main corrugated tunnel, one ragged and rusted at the edge, beside red paint arrows and a hand-written distance marker. The pipe narrows ahead into a smaller section. — 16 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

16 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A crumbling concrete inlet punched through rusted corrugated steel, with old red brick exposed around it and a thin stream of water pouring out of a smaller pipe nested inside. It shows how badly the structure has decayed. — 17 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking straight up a round access shaft past a metal ladder to a grated manhole cover, daylight falling through its square holes. Leaves and debris cling to the concrete walls. — 18 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

18 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Water ripples over the bottom of a corrugated pipe where the steel has rotted away, leaving only rusted ribs and bare ground beneath. The corrosion runs down the centre of the pipe into the dark. — 19 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Close-up of the pipe floor: rusted corrugation ridges half buried in gravel and pebbles, with a bent metal bracket lying among them. A small detail of the debris the water leaves behind. — 20 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A danger, no entry sign warning that stormwaters rise quickly, wired to a chain-link fence in front of a bare spring ravine. It marks the way in to the drain. — 21 / 21shot on Pixel 8 Pro
