A graffiti-covered bridge abutment with a barbed-wire gate and a torn chain-link fence hanging over a leafless ravine. Someone has strung plastic sheeting inside the ledge, a sign the spot is lived in. — 01 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking through a ripped chain-link fence under the deck edge, a narrow gravel ledge runs past a painted wall toward bare trees and utility poles. The mangled mesh shows how often the barrier has been forced. — 02 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

The underside of a long steel deck stretches away on a row of concrete piers above a valley of bare trees and a highway. It shows the sheer scale of the structure from beneath. — 03 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A riveted steel truss sits on a tagged concrete pier, with a barbed-wire fence in the foreground and a wide valley behind. The symmetry of the steelwork frames the graffiti-stacked column. — 04 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

04 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A graffiti-coated steel girder runs diagonally into a web of trusses and a concrete pier, with the valley opening up on the right. The tags reach even the high, hard-to-get-to beams. — 05 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking straight up at the underside of the span, tagged steel cross-bracing converges on a riveted gusset plate above a single pier. The view turns the structure into a symmetrical pattern. — 06 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

An open electrical cabinet, its wiring gutted, stands on a catwalk inside the bridge's abutment chamber surrounded by graffiti. A scrawled message on the door warns visitors about their lack of fear. — 07 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

07 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A grated catwalk leads between yellow cross-braces toward a wall-sized graffiti piece inside the abutment. Discarded clothes and debris below show people shelter here. — 08 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

08 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A narrow inspection catwalk runs dead centre through the bridge's steel trusses, vanishing toward a far vanishing point. The repeating bracing makes the length of the span tangible. — 09 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

09 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

From deeper along the catwalk, yellow X-bracing and a tagged pipe frame the grated walkway stretching ahead under the deck. The enclosed tunnel of steel feels far removed from the valley outside. — 10 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Looking down the length of a steel truss bridge's underside, a narrow catwalk with railings running into a tunnel of riveted girders and graffiti. The repeating X-bracing pulls the eye toward a vanishing point far above a leafless ravine. — 11 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

11 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A raven perched on a galvanised pipe beneath the bridge deck, feathers ruffled, eye catching the light. A resident of the structure, calm and close. — 12 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

12 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A fluffed-up raven sits on a pale riveted girder against the concrete underside of the deck, looking off to the side. Scratched lettering in the paint is worn and unreadable. — 13 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

13 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

The raven half-hidden behind a threaded rod and a steel column, holding a chunk of concrete or debris in its beak. Rivet heads on a white gusset plate frame the left side. — 14 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Feet in black sneakers standing on open steel grating, with the ground, rail tracks and a graffitied pier far below. It shows just how exposed the catwalk is. — 15 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

15 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Pale green riveted steel beams and lattice columns fan out beneath the deck, framing bare spring trees on the ravine slope. Hand-written graffiti runs along one diagonal brace. — 16 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

16 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Standing inside the truss, a graffitied pipe blurs across the foreground while riveted girders and tall steel brackets frame a distant downtown skyline beyond the treetops. The city feels far away from up here. — 17 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

17 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A symmetrical view between yellow steel columns and diagonal braces thick with graffiti tags, opening onto the wooded ravine below. The bridge's skeleton converges like a church nave. — 18 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

18 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

Yellow and pale green riveted girders cross in the foreground, tagged in blue and pink, while the ravine opens out beyond with rail tracks curving through the trees. Two tiny figures walk the path far below. — 19 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro

A close-up of a yellow brace layered with orange, blue, black and white graffiti, the truss and bare trees soft behind it. Years of tags stacked on top of each other. — 20 / 27shot on Pixel 8 Pro
